Andy is a founding certifier with the LVVTA having recently been recognised at LVVTA 20th Anniversary Awards Ceremony.

He’s been a scratch build certifier since day one, this part of his business has grown significantly as has the whole LVV system.

Primarily certifications are conducted at his modern spacious workshop in Levin but customer demand has him travel to Palmerston North, Wellington, Hutt Valley, Paraparaumu, and Porirua areas regularly, he even travels to Hastings/ Napier on occasion and most recently to the Upper South Island.

Customers find him good to deal with and fair and they don’t get jerked around or belittled because pride and joy isn’t a V8 or American.

The modified car industry has always been a very large part of Smith Automotives work, and continues to grow with demand.

“I was referred to Andy Smith of Smith Auto’s by a few members of the Constructors Car Club when I started on a scratch built Sports Car. New to the whole certification process, I had heard horror stories about some certifiers who just made life difficult for anyone in my position. Andy was said to be a good bloke to get on with and fair with his comments understanding that safety came first but there was always two ways to doing anything. Even though I live in Wellington the trip up to Levin was well worth the effort and even though a few small items required modification, Andy made the whole Cert process simple and stress free. I know car builders that have said they will never build another car again due to the cert process and I told them I won’t think twice about starting another one as long as Andy was doing the paperwork.
